Buying a property in Morocco, step by step
The key stages of a purchase, the questions to ask and the documents to request, so you can move forward with confidence.
1. Clarify your project
Before visiting, write down what you really want: use (live, rent out, second home), city and districts, property type, floor area, bedrooms, outdoor space and timing.
Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. That is what lets you compare very different properties without getting lost.
2. Set an overall budget
Your budget is more than the listed price: plan for purchase costs, possible works, furnishing and running costs.
Applicable fees and taxes depend on your situation and the property. Have a notary or qualified professional confirm them before committing.
3. New build or resale
For new builds, ask the developer about the delivery schedule, guarantees, payment plan and technical specifications.
For resale, check the overall condition, the co-ownership, service charges and the legal status of the property.
4. Check before signing
Ask for the title deed and documents on the property’s legal status, and have them checked by an independent professional.
Never pay a significant sum without a clear written framework. If in doubt, take your time.
5. Get support
A notary or legal professional secures the transaction. ABRAJ helps you shape and refine your search; we do not give legal or tax advice.
